When towing with a normal passenger car in the UK the maximum permissible width for a trailer is 2.3 meters. However, the load attached to the trailer can overhang the sides by up to 30cm on each side giving a total width of 2.9m.
Is your winch broken or unserviceable? If so do not panic. You can use ratchet straps to pull the car a few inches at a time up onto your load bed. Use two straps and alternate between them.
I am sure I had read that you can keep your Alko hitch lock on during a journey but the chap at my local Caravan Dearler shop said that you couldn't and or shouldn't? Is this true and if so why?...View Entire Thread
