The community of Ruthin is in North Wales. Sited on a hill in the southern part of the Vale of Clwyd, the old town, castle and Saint Peter's Square are located on top of the hill. Most of the newer parts of the town are on the floodplain of the River Clwyd which has caused problems with flooding in recent times. A new flood defence system has been constructed at great cost in Ruthin to try and prevent further flooding in the future.
