Its very easy to make sure your trailer is road worthy and your load is securely strapped down, but make sure that you have a legal number plate on the trailer that matches the number plate on the car. A hand written number plate is NOT legal.
It is perfectly legal for your load to overhang the rear end of your trailer. However, if the overhang is over 1m it should be marked with a bright flag. Go over 2m and you will require an illuminated marker board.
My exhaust has broken where the pipe meets the silencer so I cannot use one of those exhaust pipe repair kits that wrap around the pipe.
