How to Overhaul a 50cc Scooter Front Brake Caliper

Overhauling the Front Brake Caliper

If your imported 50c chinese scooter has been standing unused for a time, or the front brakes have been exposed to alot of weather, the front brake caliper may benefit from a basic overhaul. It is basically a case of removing, cleaning and lubricating the brake caliper so it functions efficiently. Ideally, you would use an impact wrench to undo the nut. You will require a few basic tools, cleaning and lubricating equipment and some patience.

If your your chinese scooter is suffering from poor braking performance, or the brakes are sticking on then follow these steps to clean and overhaul the from caliper.

  2. Undo the two bolts that secure the front brake caliper to your 50cc scooters front forks and slide the brake caliper away from the disk.

  3. Now, undo and remove the slide bolt that help secure the two halves of the caliper together. This will allow you to separate the two parts of your QMB139 50cc scooters caliper ready for cleaning. NOTE: If your motorbikes caliper is heavily corroded and seized you may have to apply penetrating oil and gently separate the parts!

  4. Now separate all the parts on your chinese 50cc scooters brake caliper and clean and lubricate thoroughly using a wire brush, carb cleaner and spray grease. Use large pliers or similar to compress the calipers piston in and out of the caliper.

  5. Reassemble your chinese import scooters front brake caliper, apply grease to any sliding parts, replace the brake pads if necessary. Do not get grease on you motorbikes front brake pads!










Notes

On reassembly, ensure to lubricate the sliding parts of your chinese scooters front brake caliper. If the caliper was seized this may prevent it seizing again in the future.
