Steps to Remove Engine From Chinese Scooter

Engine Removal

Follow the steps below to remove the engine from your Chinese import scooter motorcycle. Work in a structured manor and complete each step before moving onto the next one. You may have to refer to other chapters in this online manual to complete some of the steps.


  1. Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental shock.
  2. Remove the body panels from around the engine (refer to relevant section).
  3. Disconnect the motorcycle engine earth cable.
  4. Disconnect the spark plug cable.
  5. Unplug the Autochoke connector.
  6. Disconnect the connectors to the Magneto and Starter Motor.
  7. Separate the fuel line and inlet pipe from the carburetor.
  8. Disconnect the throttle cable.
  9. Completely remove the Air Filter.
  10. Separate the brake cable from the brake control arm on the rear hub.
  11. Remove the rear Shock Absorber.
  12. Undo and withdraw the main engine mounting bolt.
  13. Lift and support the front of the scooter temporarily.
  14. Remove your import scooters side stand and spring mechanism.
  15. Now undo and remove the front engine mounting bolts.
  16. You should now be able to separate the engine assembly from the scooters chassis.
  17. Simply reverse these instructions to reinstall the engine.

Notes

These instructions will be suitable for many of the imported 4 stroke scooters on the road today, there may be some variations between models, but don't panic, just work slowly and carefully and you will get there!

Many jobs are the same for all generic GY6 style mopeds, once you have fixed one you will find that you can work on another model fairly easily.
